1.     Introduction

The need for healthcare budget and policies has increased in the UK and other countries over the years. With a £144.4 billion (Deloitte, 2015) health care budget in 2012, the National Health Services U.K is facing a pressing issue of increasing health care needs. Amongst these, the demand for psychological related health services is on the rise. According to the Joint Commissioning Panel for Mental Health (2012), 17.6% of adults in the UK are considered to have some forms of mental health problem. At the same time, the overall burden of disease of mental health problem soars high at 23% as compared to 16% is due to cancer and cardiovascular diseases.health care policies.

As stated by Blank and Burau (2013), the health care policies in the UK and around the world have changed over the time and there are many factors that cause these changes in the healthcare policies. These factors include both the microeconomic and macroeconomic factors including the social factors within a society. The healthcare policies in the UK are generally changed considering the situation of the health industry within the country and the social and economic situations prevailing in the country at a particular time. Considering this, this research will aim to identify the social factors in particular that affect the UK healthcare policies in order to solve the health-related problems in the country.

1.1 Significance and Rationale of the Research

Health care policies: The rationale behind conducting the research on this particular research title is the researcher’s personal interest in the field of health policy and the significance of the research for the healthcare policymakers. The research carries significance to different individuals and institutions in the UK. The research will identify and evaluate the social factors that can affect the health care policies in the UK so the individual readers will also be able to learn those factors as well and their knowledge will be increased. The institutions and policymakers will also benefit from the research and they will be able to monitor the social factors and their impact on the health care policy in the UK. Lastly, the research carries significance for the future researchers and academicians as the research will also contribute to the academic literature and provide the future researchers with better knowledge on the research title.

2.     Literature review

As stated by Malik, Willett and Hu (2013), different factors contribute to the health care policy in a country at the same time. These factors mainly include social and economic factors prevailing in the country. Therefore, the identification of each of these two factors is important in order to identify the determinants of health care policy in the UK or any other country. As stated by Marmot (2005), the social factors have a significant impact on the health of the common people so these factors also have a direct impact on the health policy developed in a particular country. The social factors generally include the trends going on in the society apart from the common social and demographic factors. Which include income, food security, employment and working conditions etc. Further, as analysed by Nutley, Davies and Smith (2000), the people with lower social position or belonging to lower social class have reported more health issues as compared to the middle and upper class. This suggests a relationship between the social class and health conditions of the individuals. It is further stated that there is a strong relationship between the health conditions in a country with the health care policy being developed in the country.health care policies.

However, in contrast to the above findings, there have been researches which found that there is no significant impact of the social factors on the health care policy being developed in a country. The health budget and health care policy are highly dependent on the health conditions and economic conditions prevailing in the country. Whenever the economic conditions improve, the health budget is reduced and the health policy is revised (Moorhead et al., 2013). This highlights that there is a wide application of the social factors in the formation of health care policy in the UK. The literature also illustrates that there is a conflict on the research title among the past researchers. Therefore, this current research will also help the future researchers clear their view on the given research title.

3.The Aims and Objectives of the Proposed Research

Every research aims to achieve certain objectives and answer some related research questions. The achievement of those objectives indicates whether the research was successful or not. Similarly, this research will also purpose to achieve the aims and objectives formatted in this section. The main research aim is to identify and evaluate the social factors that affect the health care policy in the UK…
