Introduction

Effect of Employee Motivation Practices:The topic that is chosen for the study is “Factors of Motivation Affecting Employee Performance” the study will be conducted on three different banks of UK including 1. Lloyds Bank 2. Barclays Bank and 3. HSBC to understand what factors trigger an employee attitude. Irrespective of the fact that performance is positive or negative, the main idea is to identify those factors that marks huge impact on an individual employee. The significance of this topic is that it will help to study the culture and the behavior of employees in organization and see the differences in theories and in the real world.

It has been stated that the absence of factors such as non monetary rewards, work environment and monetary rewards will adversely affect the employee intrinsically and extrinsically (Fred, 2008). Therefore it is important to understand that a happy employee is because of the presence of good working environment, monetary factors and non monetary factors. All these factors lead an employee towards its goal accomplishment (Khan and Farooq, 2010).

Cadwallader, Jarvis, Bitner, and Ostrom (2010) stated that employee motivation plays an important role in the field of business as:

  • It puts human resources into action.
  • Increases the efficiency level of the work.
  • Leads to the accomplishment of the organization’s goals.
  • It also builds friendly relationship between the employees.
  • It will lead to an optimistic and challenging attitude at workplace.

Significance of the Research

The topic has been chosen to study factors affecting employee performance because it is applicable in the contemporary world. As in every organization, there are some factors that are monetary or non monetary those create a heavy impact on an individual employee and his/her performance is affected. Hafiza, Shah, Jamsheed, and Zaman (2011) explained that these factors must be present in organization in order to achieve success or to accomplish the desired goals. Therefore, main issue which will be investigated in this report is:

Also it is important to understand the difference in application of motivation in theories and in the real world. Motivation plays an important role in determining productivity of workers. The productivity of a motivated worker is million times more than a de-motivated worker. Motivation could be either intrinsically or extrinsically. But it is also believed that monetary benefits provide extra motivation. Productivity increases when employees know their performance will be rewarded because it motivates them to work even harder (Hiller, 2004)….
