Overview

Climate change in any country has a significant impact on the overall environment. Every sector of the country, including economy, agriculture, and health sector gets influenced by the potential climate change.

The term climate is a long-term alternative expression of weather. It can be defined as thepredictable weather. Any changes occurring in this predictable weather can be referred as climate change. The change in the climate can occur in different ways, at different terrestrial scales, and over diverse time scales.

Moreover, there are several activities that can cause a climate change. On the occurrence of the climate change, the temperature can rise intensely. The increased temperature can cause many changes on the earth.Climate change risk assessment and mitigation report

For instance, floods, heavy rains, and frequent heat waves can be the result of the increased temperature. Some climate changes are also experienced by glaciers and oceans. These changes can be in the form of acidic oceans, melted glaciers, and increased sea levels.

Since these changes are occurring for decades and are likely to occur in the future as well, therefore many challenges are encountered by the environment (Lejeusne, 2010).

In particular, the climate change in the UK has been a subject of objections and arguments for decades and several policies have been designed to mitigate its devastating effects. In the UK, since the 1970s, the temperature has risen by about one degree and has become a reason of greenhouse gas stages in the atmosphere.

Although, the climate of UK is now considered to be a moderate climate which means that its temperature does not rise to its extremes, but sometimes it has to face a drastic climate change which  includes floods, heavy rains and is likely to face drier summers in the upcoming days which could bring a risk of heat waves and drought.

The heat waves can affect the healthcare services. Especially the old ones can become a victim of these waves as their immune system is weak. It has been observed that in the UK, the summers of 1976 had brought the high temperature up to 35°C which was so dry that it caused the deficiency of water and drought.

It has been observed that the western side of the United Kingdom remains the wettest part of the country due to the heavy rainfall that comes from the Atlantic. This heavy rainfall can become a cause of various problems which need to be considered by the government of the UK.

The UK has to face strong winds due to the high latitude and presence of large ocean in the vicinity of the west. The government of UK considers the floods as a great threat to their country as it affects the major sectors including the economy and agriculture which are considered to be the significant part in terms of their role that they play in ensuring the progress and prosperity for any country (Fowler, 2010).

Forest sector of UK

Changes in climate are a difficult challenge for the management and planners of forest in the UK because the variation in temperature, seasonality of rainfall, and a rise in therate of occurrence of extreme events add complications in the selection of species and in silvicultural activities.

By actively knowing about forest management now, and in order to expect future changes we can try to increase resilience by reducing exposure to risks in the forest sector. There will be an increase in tree productivity in some areas and fall in others, and the effects will vary with species.

There are many uncertainties associated with climate change that can affect trees, agricultural practices, and forest operations. This unreliability should not be adopted but instead, it should show the woodland managers to apply some measures that increase flexibility whatever climate change brings (Lindner, 2010).

Many factors related to climate change would definitely affect the growth and productivity of a forest such as an increase in temperature and carbon dioxide (CO2) and variation in precipitation.

Risks faced by forests due to climate change

Threats that are posed by the changes in climate to the United Kingdom’s forestry sector are identified and mentioned below:

Drought

Drought is one of the main factors which may progressively affect the growth of trees and woodland ecology, especially the southern and eastern regions of England.

Although it previously affected the tree physiology in dry times, but it has been observed that considerable areas of the UK may get highly affected in the future. It will also affect the productivity of………………………………………………………………………………..continued
