The Deepwater Horizon is an offshore company that performs the drilling of oil function under the leasing contract with the BP. In the year 2010, BP and the Deepwater Horizon Disaster the most severe event occurred in the history of America that resulted in worst environmental issues (Northouse, 2016). The disaster occurred due to the release of crude oil that later resulted in the heavy explosion of 3 major cracks on the oil rig of Deepwater Horizon. Due to this explosion, the deaths and injuries have reported a dumping of about 205 million gallons of oil in the Mexico Region.
In the history of the BP Company, it can be seen that a similar kind of issues has also been reported in the year 2005 which also causes a number of deaths as well as injuries. This report would be analysing the overall crisis that occurred in the year 2010 within the context of skills of leadership that are required to manage the crisis in an efficient manner. There could be several factors that could result in the crisis for the company that include the internal as well as the external factor. The former focuses on the poor management decision, faulty organizational practices as well as process whereas, the latter talks about the unexpected natural disaster,
