Introduction

Religious Studies:This essay being the part of religious studies is based on Salafis movement. The entire discussion is based on the argument that whether or not Salafis are united by a common religious creed. This is the first part of the discussion while the second part focuses on the debate that if their religious beliefs can be applied to the contemporary issues and problems and provide a solid solution and method to solve them. This will be further discovered in the essay.

“Salafis are united by a common religious creed, which provides principles and a method for applying religious beliefs to contemporary issues and problems.” Discuss.

First of all, the statement according to personal viewpoint talks in favors of the first part of the discussion based on Salafis. It says that Salafis are united by a specific religious creed. Talking in the contrast of the second part, this states that principles and methods of Salafi creed could solve the current happening problems all around the globe. However, I disagree with this statement. Hence, the further discussion will be cover both the parts thoroughly.

What does Salafi mean?

As stated by Meijer (2007), the word Salafi means “Early Muslim.” According to the traditional Islamic learning the person who is Salafi is “someone who died within the first four hundred years after the Prophet (Peace be upon him), including scholars such as Abu Hanifa, Shafi’I and Ahmad ibn Hanbal. Anyone who died after this is one of the Khalaf or latter-day Muslims.” The term Salafi is now considered as a movement among the Muslims belonging to latter-day.

Salafi movement:

The Salafi movement refers to the movement of Jihadis or fundamental Muslims who work for the acceptance of Sunni Islam. When it comes to religion, every Salafi share a narrow-minded approach towards the religious innovations by strictly changing the model of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). Some of the important diverse figures representing Wahhabis are Osama Bin Laden and Saudi Arabia’s Mufti, and they highlight a wide array of positions on the issues of politics and violence (Clarke, 2006)….
