Summarised Findings

  • Historical and Legal Policies for multi-professional working in the area of Children and Families Social work

The first objective of the research was to evaluate the legal structure as well as the historical practices for multi-professionals. The objective was achieved by reviewing the previously published research articles.

The review of studies in the particular context showed that since 1974, different practices were initiated for safeguarding the rights of children. However, some of the evidence reflected that in the initial stages of policy reforms a lot of hurdles were observed that influenced the development of collaborative efforts for safeguarding the rights of children. The children’s protection reforms were brought into the light. Some of the policies that were initiated in the era include The Children Act 1948, by the virtue of these acts different committees, welfare centers were set up, and their work was even appreciated by the masses.

the document named Every Child Matters, and other social reforms were published having a common aim i.e. to protect and safeguard the rights and interest of children.

  • To investigate the nature & difficulties associated with inter-professional working when safeguarding children over the past 10 years via analysis of qualitative empirical evidence.

The second objective of the research was to investigate the difficulties observed by multi-professional workers. After reviewing different qualitative research, it has been concluded that one of the difficulties faced by the workers was distrust between different professionals, due to distrust and disrespect; it became difficult to implement the devised action plans made for safeguarding children. On the other hand, some of the evidence showed that publicizing the professional failures was also one of the hurdles faced by the workers.

As it had a negative effect on the practices of multi-professionals. Some of the reports stated that whistle-blowers in the fields were compressed which raised concerns and questions about the reliability of the multi-practitioners. On the other hand, from different reviews it has been assumed that lack of coordination from different practitioners also created barriers for multi-professionals; therefore, most of the documents that have highlighted the issues in multi-professional fields have regarded sector divergence as one of the biggest barrier faced by multi-professional workers.

  • To determine whether the changes in policy have had any impact on the prevalence of neglect, physical and sexual abuse in children through quantitative analysis of relevant prevalence rates in England.

The third objective of the study was to determine whether the policies and regulations had any impact in prevailing child abuse. Both quantitative, as well as qualitative data was gathered and observed for this purpose. The results have identified that the number of children in need has increased tremendously since 2010. Furthermore, the quantitative data also showed that more children have registered for child protection plans. Therefore, from the stats,

charts, and figures it has been concluded that although multi-professional workers have been unable to reduce the rate of domestic violence and abuse against children.
