Executive Summary
This policy brief focuses on corruption in Seruyan Indonesia especially during the administration of Mayor Darwan Ali under the analytical theory of clientelism. Clientelism is a system of political reciprocation whereby politicians make favours in exchange for support is clearly manifest in Seruyan local politics. This system continues corruption because it establishes the networks of favoritism and submits the people to political authorities by making them choose between job loss or being socially deprived. The effect of Clientelism in Seruyan has been harsh having destabilized democracy, perpetuated poverty, and destroyed environment. The following is a brief of action which aims at undermining these clientelism networks by increasing the visibility of these problems, increasing the effectiveness of the legal frame work, enforcing environmental laws….
