To evaluate the nature and effectiveness of the relationship between corporate citizenship and corporate social responsibility in the British Petroleum.

Objectives

• To analyse critically the concept and scope of corporate citizenship and corporate social responsibility in British Petroleum.

• To examine the nature and relationship between corporate social responsibility and productivity for British Petroleum

• To explore the relationship between corporate citizenship and corporate social responsibility and determine its linkages with organizational growth and stability.

• To recommend viable and improvement strategies.

The research is centred upon determining the nature and extent of the link amongst corporate citizenship and corporate social responsibility in the British Petroleum (BP), which is one of the largest oil companies in the world in terms of both reserves and market capitalisation (Mallenbaker, 2014).

The issues of corporate citizenship in BP encompass: environmental impact including both the effects of the company’s operations and the climate change. A critical examination of the Relationship between preservation of human rights in all countries of operation; business ethics; and social development.
In order to explore the aforementioned link, issues like the company’s claims of being a sustainable energy producer; production of fossil fuels; and the commitment to the preservation of the environment, are intended to be concentrated upon. The claims will be investigated from both sides i.e. BP and the various academic commentators.

Methods
What data would you use for the research; where would you get it from and how would you analyse it; A critical examination of the Relationship between in what ways would you address each of your objectives, the methods you will use for data analysis including any software.

Only secondary academic data from reliable and authentic sources will be utilised, A critical examination of the Relationship between some of which are being mentioned below. The data will be collected and analysed to determine anomalies in BP’s claims of being a socially responsible corporation.

Towards attainment of the first two objectives, the claims being made by BP (BP, 2013) will be weighed in the light of various investigative and fact finding academic reports and studies. Some of these include: Li, Zhu & Lu (2014); Greiner Et al. (2013); Harlow, Brantley & Harlow (2011); Spencer & Fitzgerald (2013); Aryee (2012); and Veil, Sellnow & Wickline (2013). These reports and articles are mainly commentaries upon BP’s response to various accidents like oil spills and measures adopted by the company to guard against environmental damage.
The third objective will be explored through the academic contributions of Crane & Matten (2010) and Aguinis & Glavas (2012).
