Introduction
Social work is a distinguished profession which collaborates in the society to perform a key role in the society to help out different segments of the society in different matters, like children, adults, senior citizens, families etc.
They work to improve the living conditions of people when they are in deprived situations or have threats of safety, security or have been restricted from participating in the civic life (Grayson and Hodges, 2017).
On the other hand, in the view of Morel, Palier and Palme (2012), social workers are doing a challenging job in terms of reaching out towards different groups of individuals in the society and providing them services in the light of the challenges that are being faced by the communities in a particular country.
Therefore, the presence of commitment and dedication on the part of the social workers is important in order to bring about necessary reforms and improvements within a particular society.
Similarly, social workers also have an important role to play in the UK in terms of providing care and effective services to different individuals of the community.
The social workers in the UK have different kinds of responsibilities that are needed to be fulfilled such as making arrangements to provide healthcare to the family members along with helping those individuals that are experiencing problems in terms of maintaining family relationships and conflicts.
Besides, the challenges are also associated with caring for those that are struggling because of age and suffering from mental diseases and facing issues related to drugs and alcohol (Community Care, 2010).
Analysis of Issues and Challenges of Social workers
The social work carried out in England has a long and rich history. Its history dates back to the 19Th century, the purpose of which was to eradicate the level of poverty. The need for extensive social work was present at that stage because of the fact that the country was suffering from backwardness at that point of time in different sectors of the economy.
However, the presence and the availability of the responsible and qualified individuals were important in order to carry out the activities of social work in an effective manner (Finch, 2017).
There are different ways in which social workers over the years provide services to the individuals of the community such as making home visits in order to see the patients personally and the kind of diseases from which they are suffering (Evans and Gray, 2012).
On the other hand, the other form of social service that the workers provide to the effected individuals is related to providing financial advice to the families so that they are in a position to manage their expenditures effectively. Providing financial advice is important and has a long-term impact on the individuals of the society and plays an important role in identification of solution of their problems.
The other example of social workers providing their services especially in the context of the UK is to provide parental advice to the members of the society. Parenting advice is not only related to managing the population growth rate in the UK but it is also concerned with improving the quality of education that the students were receiving (Daly and Bray, 2015).
Considering the significance and the need for social work in the society, it is imperative that social casework system is being developed and implemented within the society. Social casework is that type of social worker that works under the supervision of the government and highlights the contribution and the commitment of the state towards the welfare of its citizens (Foren and Bailey, 2016).
Nevertheless, Social work operates under a specific legal framework and policies of government designed for them which are distinct for every segment like children, families or senior citizens. Social workers are not only responsible for working for people, rather they also have the responsibility of identifying where their intervention is required.
Intervention can occur on different basis which can be both pre-emptive and constitutional when for example children ad families, who are vulnerable, are made subject to violence, exploitation of any kind, any type of abuse or when made homeless due to any illegal reason (McDonald, 2010).
The other important aspect in terms of development of social work in the UK is the development of state social work in 1948 which proved to be instrumental in terms of establishing the system of social work in the UK.
The development of state social work in 1948 in the UK was directed towards the development of a welfare state by means of providing different kinds of facilities and eradicating the issues that are faced by different individuals of a community.
In addition to that, the policies with respect to state social work is directed towards reducing different kinds of inequalities within the society and making sure that individuals are able to obtain their rights (Spicker, 2018).
On the other hand, the changes that took place in the social work from Seebohm and the development of a universal service played an instrumental role in the ways in which social work is being performed over the years.
The report recommended that there should be a formation of a unified social service system in every major local authority. The purpose behind that was to ensure that basic needs and wants of individual that belong to different societies are being catered efficiently.
As a result of that, the unified system of network proved to be instrumental in terms of improving the overall quality of social services (Dickens, 2010). Considering the significance of the reforms that were highlighted in Seebohm report, the impact of the report and its aspects also had an effect on the social activities that were carried out in the UK.
One of the ways in which it affected the social work system in the UK is by increasing the level of generalization where individuals belonging to different age, backgrounds and culture were started to benefit from the effectiveness of the social work system.
However, there were certain challenges with respect to integrating the elements of the report within the social care policies implemented in the UK (Trevithick, 2012).
There are different functions of social work and the factors that have had an influence on those functions……..
