In Northouse’s book Leadership, he defines leadership as “a process whereby one individual inspires a group of individuals to achieve a common purpose.” This concept is appropriate for paramedics since “process” in the definition of leadership refers to the “association” between the leader and the followers, which is where leadership takes place. Although the final aim is the comparable, leadership styles vary depending on the paramedic care leader, the followers, the customs, and the time. The key component of leadership is “inspiration,” or how a leader influences members and the interaction between followers and leaders (Northouse, 2019). Power is the main tool that leaders in an institution use to inspire followers.
