Introduction
Critical Appraisal of Prevalence of Diabetes and Impaired Glucose Tolerance:This assignment intends to carry forward critical assessment of the article that revolves around the conception of diabetes and evaluate the IGT levels in India which are developed by Ramachandran, Snehalatha, Kapur, Vijay, Mohan, Das, and Diabetes Epidemiology Study Group in India (DESI) in the year 2001.
The article emphasizes on diabetes as a disorder, which is increasingly getting more common among the Asians and the prevalence of diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance in India, including six major cities Ramachandran, Snehalatha, Kapur, Vijay, Mohan, Das, and Diabetes Epidemiology Study Group in India (DESI), (2001). In addition to this, it has also been highlighted in this article that in the last three decades the prevalence of diabetes is showing a rising trend in Indian Urban population. Literature Review
In the specified article it has been acknowledged that diabetes at the young age is not healthy, it is caused because of rising in an unhealthy lifestyle and bad eating habits. It has also identified from the chosen article that diabetes poses a major threat to the future public and health resources. The increasing prevalence of diabetes is throughout Asia and Pacific especially in certain ethnic and subpopulations due to changes in cultural, socio-economic, and political environments.
There is no effective control and prevention of this difficulty (Ramachandran et al, 2001). This point raised by the author is also supported by Mohan, Shanthirani, Deepa (2006) that the lack of activity from the lifestyle of an individual leads towards the occurrence of diabetes to which there is no effective control and prevention of this difficulty.
Furthermore, it has also been stated in this article that glucose-impaired tolerance increases the risk of cardiovascular problems. It is certified that problems India is more prone towards diabetes than in the western population (Ramachandran et al, 2001). This point has been contradicted by Raman, Ganesan, Pal, Kulothungan and Sharma (2014) that rising prevalence of diabetes and other developing countries is chiefly due to urbanization. The WHO estimated that India will have increased and largest numbers if diabetes subjects and cases which will result in the rapid urbanization and economic development. Hence, it has been comprehended from this discourse that diabetes refers to a dreadful disease that subliminally influences the health of a person…………………..
