Female Motivation about Start-Up Entrepreneurship
Introduction
entrepreneurship theory:It has been a human nature that human tends to dominate others. Working in any organisation tends people to be dominated by others. In order to break free of the boundaries set by a job, there are few people in the world with an innovative mind who starts their own business based upon their own new and innovative ideas.
These people are known as entrepreneurs and there are many definitions present to define entrepreneurship but ultimately it can be concise as turning an idea with a commitment into a profitable business (Fernandes, 2016). Entrepreneurship is something which people are looking to go towards in the days of recession and continuous downsizing of companies.
The World is continuously changing and reforming and this change is reform is generating opportunities for people with creative minds to come up with new ideas for services and products which can help people in their daily life to start new businesses. Entrepreneurship is a field which is open to everyone anyone with a creative idea strong enough to catch the attention of people is the key to entrepreneurship. However, as Duggan (2012) states there is a strong probability that people will not have enough courage to mention their ideas in the fear of getting a negative feedback. As like every field in the world, the female is also taking part in launching new businesses and they are jumping into entrepreneurship.
Reasons behind Entrepreneurship
Opening and starting a business cannot be possible without having a proper motivation behind it. As Shaver and Scott (1991), argues that decisions taken by rational people are the reason behind new business ventures. It is just not the rational mind of a person that can help him/her open a new venture, as Singh and Fleming (2010) says that a large number of ideas makes someone able to develop a good idea out of them. There has been an argument present between researcher as Steinbeck (1952) says that an idea can only be of a single mind and groups can only work to build that idea, while Singh and Fleming (2010b) strongly believes that an idea out of a single mind can only produce a poor outcome.
Glass Ceiling Effect
There can be many motivations to open a new venture of own. Money, flexibility, control, teamwork and legacy are few of the reasons to start a business. They are just not the only motivation to open a new business venture. In terms of female, there can be a lot of things that can motivate them to go towards opening a new business. As it is stated in The Guardian that women in the UK are getting 18% less salary at an average than a man (Allen, 2016). While entrepreneurship theory it is also supported by Forbes that women working on the same job will get a lower salary than women. They are blaming glass ceiling effect as the main cause of this (Webb, 2016).
This glass ceiling effect has been there in the world for centuries. People working in organisations have been facing this glass ceiling effect and its effect is different in different situations. Out of all these women are facing the worst ceiling effect they might get a job more easily than a man but in the long run they are not getting paid as much as males do. This is a demotivating factor for women in going towards the job. Money is not the reason behind opening a new venture but seeing a man getting higher salary than you on the same post of yours will give a rise of thoughts to open a new venture where they will not have to see this. This demotivation then gives rise to women going towards opening new business ventures. It is observed that a number of female entrepreneurs have risen considerably in past few decades due to women facing this glass ceiling effect (Mattis, 2004)….
