Research Title

The research title selected for this research is “Evaluating Factors that Affect Users’ Level of Trust and Sense of Security in E-Commerce Applications”.

Project Aim, Objectives and Research Question

Evaluating Factors that Affect Users: Every research aims to achieve certain aims and objectives by answering the research questions. The research aims to identify and evaluate the factors that affect users’ level of trust and sense of security in E-commerce applications. The objectives of the research are as follows:

  • To identify the factors that affect users’ level of trust and sense of security in E-commerce applications.
  • To study and evaluate the factors identified that can possibly affect users’ level of trust and sense of security in E-commerce applications.
  • To find out most critical factors that can affect users’ level of trust and sense of security in E-commerce applications.

These are the research objectives, the main research question is as follows:

  1. What are the factors that affect users’ level of trust and sense of security in E-commerce applications and how each factor impacts the user’s trust and security?

The research question is relevant and applicable in the contemporary world because the users of E-commerce applications are now more concerned about the security. There are many E-commerce applications which fail due to the lack of trust from the users and security provided by the application.

Theoretical Framework

In accordance with Solove (2008), the level of trust and security provided by an E-commerce application plays a significant role in the development of trust and customer satisfaction for any particular business. Whenever the customers’ level of trust is higher on an E-commerce application and they perceive that the application is safer, it becomes easier for them to use the application and purchase the goods from the particular company. In the view of Denning (1999), there are different types of attacks which affect the performance of information systems. These are the attacks that break the trust of users and reduce security provided by an E-commerce application. The various types of attacks include Network attacks, operating system attacks, application level attacks, social attacks and blended attacks. These various types of attacks affect the Ecommerce applications or information systems differently; for example, operating system attacks affect the OS of the user who is using the Ecommerce application such as Samsung phone users’ android software may crash as a result of the operating system attack.
