1. Design Specification, Materials and Process for Golf Club
On the basis of group study conducted on the design specification of the golf club; the design parameters identified are as follows:
- The length of the golf club as per the measurement of the group is 36.5 metres.
- The frequency of the assembly practice is 303.1 units. However, the frequency after the observation changed and the frequency after the assembly is measured to be 301.05.
- The swing weight before assembly is D5 as customer specification in making the golf club.
In the view of Cheng, Chen and Chiu (2001), the manufacture of the gold club requires the utilisation of different materials such as ceramics, plastics, composites and much more. These materials are employed keeping the nature of golf club in mind and the usage of materials can vary as per the design of the golf club.
It is further stated by Cheng, Chen and Chiu (2001) that the USA golf association has also introduced certain regulations related to the design and size of the golf club as there is a minimum size defined for each golf club under the jurisdiction of the relevant authority. The process of manufacturing a golf club can be divided into three broad categories as follows:
- Forming the head – includes initial processes of manufacturing.
- Forming the shaft
- Assembling the club and the work done at the initial stages.
These are the processes and after each process, a quality control tool is applied to track the performance of the relevant workers in the company.
2. Key Areas to be considered in Manufacturing and Selling
There are several key areas that must be considered by the businesses while manufacturing or selling a product in the market. These are important measures to assess the need in the market for the product and manufacture the product as per the need identified. Some of these important measures are as follows:
- Sustainability of materials
- Ethical considerations in relation to manufacturing
- Legal considerations
- Quality considerations and applicable industry standards
- Customer expectations
- Manufacturing costs and price to the final purchaser
2.1 Sustainability of Materials
In accordance with Koltun (2010), the sustainability of materials to be used as input for manufacturing is very important as these are the basics behind sustainable products that business is producing. It is further stated that the materials currently used in the manufacturing of different goods are quite unsustainable, and it has a negative effect on the environment as a whole.
However, different authorities have taken measures for the sustainability of production methods in recent years. An example of such measures is that the EcoDirective Design of the European Union has established restrictions on the energy consumption and other control measures to protect the environment from adverse impacts of manufacturing processes.
As stated by Koltun (2010), businesses need to employ different efficiency strategies and sustainability in order to become sustainable. If the companies only employ efficiency strategies, then they will be able to minimise the adverse effects of production on the environment.
A similar case is observed in the case of the building of the golf club as the materials and processes used in a building can also be unsustainable. Therefore, the improvement is needed in materials used in the construction of the golf club so that it can help us keep the environment sustainable……………………………
