Theoretical Framework

The Nigerian economy is termed as the mixed economy that can be categorised as the middle income region. In addition to this, Nigerian economy possesses a potential and is expanding various sectors such as financial sector, communication, entertainment and manufacturing etc (Biersteker, 2014). In addition to this, Nigeria is ranked at 20th place in terms of purchasing power of parity and is categorised among the emerging economies of the world (Sanusi, 2012). Therefore, the results obtained by the virtue of this study would prove to be beneficial for the similar natured Nigerian companies as the First Bank Nigeria Plc.

The term employee motivation can be explained as the degree of commitment, liveliness and creativity an individual possess while working for the particular organization. The presence of the motivated fleet of employees has the ability to lead the business towards success. This is because of the reason that motivated workforce jointly works with the leadership in order to achieve the organizational goals (Manzoor, 2012). In addition to this, the motivation can be perceived as the psychological phenomena that lead a person towards behaving in a particular manner (Cherian and Jacob, 2013). The employees can be motivated with the help of intrinsic factors and extrinsic motivation factors. The intrinsic motivation is the inherent factors that constantly encourage the person to pursue the particular act. On the other hand, the extrinsic motivation can be derived by awarding the person on the basis of his/her performance (Cerasoli, Nicklin and Ford, 2014). Cherian and Jacob (2013) highlights that the amalgamation of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation facilitates the managers to keep the workforce encouraged towards the work. In the view of Manzoor (2012) the human resource department of the corporations deploys employee motivation plans in order to use the competencies of the workforce adjacent to the rivals. Appelbaum (2013) states that, involvement of employees in the process of decision making also works as a motivating factor; this is because of the reason that in this manner the employees feel valued.

It has been highlighted by Arekar, Jain, Desphande and Sherin (2016) that motivation in the workforce derives satisfaction within them. The emergence of satisfaction in the employees constantly encourages them to perform fairly well in the support of the firm. The satisfaction in the employees reflects the ability of the particular job to keep an individual contented (Zablah, Carlson, Donavan, Maxham III and Brown, 2016). In addition to this, the presence of job satisfaction plays a momentous role in decreasing the turnover rate of the employees from the company (Arekar, Jain, Desphande and Sherin, 2016). The motivation in the employees stimulates the formation of bonds among the company and workforce. These bonds result in deriving satisfaction in the workforce that makes a person loyal to the particular business entity (Zablah, Carlson, Donavan, Maxham III and Brown, 2016). Thus, it has been comprehended that the traces concerning the association in between employee motivation and job satisfaction has been found in the literature.
