Introduction

Background

Mobile is a word that we use very commonly nowadays. Mobile is an English word derived from the Latin word ‘mob’ and means something which can move or has the quality that it can move (Word roots: The web’s largest root words and prefix directory, no date). The word cloud refers to a similar mass in something otherwise unclear (‘the definition of cloud’, no date).

The third word that one must get familiarized with for this paper is one which almost everyone knows in today’s world. Not only knows the term but most have seen it, used it. That word is computer. The word computer is derived from two Latin words ‘com’ and ‘put.’ Com means together while put means think. Therefore, computer is a device that thinks together with electricity.

From the above definitions, it is easy to understand what Mobile Computing is- it is a computer which is calculating and processing information while it can move; but what is Mobile Cloud Computing? Mobile Cloud Computing is when a computer or any computed device (this includes our current cell phones, tablets, iPads, laptops etc) can process data and at the same time that device can be move from one place to another (obviously it is a non-living thing and cannot move on its own). The term cloud here basically refers to the internet. Mobile Cloud Computing encompasses all those computers which can process data via the internet.

Figure 1: Mobile Cloud

(Mobile Weds Cloud, 2012) The picture above shows how mobile cloud connects the people in different areas and with different devices, with just one click. Therefore, one can conclude that Mobile Cloud Computing includes the laptops, tablets, Android phones, iPhones, iPads, iPods and the likes with just one click.
