Oil and Gas Laws of Ohio and Wyoming: A Detailed Summary
A Brief Introduction:
Ohio and Wyoming are two major natural reservoirs of Oil and Gas. The natural gas reserves in Ohio more than doubled as a result of development of the Utica Shale play, and Idaho in 2014 reported proved natural gas reserves for the first time (U.S Energy Information Administration). In 2014, West Virginia surpassed Wyoming and Colorado to become the fourth-largest state for natural gas proved reserves (behind Texas, Pennsylvania, and Oklahoma) (U.S Energy Information Administration). The aspects which we will be covering in this study are as follows:
- Well Site Selection.
- Wellbore Integrity.
- Emissions Control.
- Waste Water Disposal.
- Frack Fluid Disclosure.
- Excess Gas Disposal.
- Plugging and Abandoning Wells.
Though we may not cover these points individually but several sections will contain material pointing towards the above mentioned points.
Aim of this Paper:
The aim of this essay is to bring into limelight, the laws and regulations which are enforced by the regulatory regimes of Ohio and Wyoming regarding the Oil and Gas. First of all, we will be focusing on the Oil and Gas regulations in Ohio. Our primary focus will be on wells and regulations regarding wells because our major key points mentioned above, talk about wells. After mentioning the laws of these states, we will analyze and discuss the pros and cons of the policies which have been implemented by now and then we will move towards a conclusive ending.

There are several points we will be discussing in this section as Wells play a vital role in the extraction natural reservoirs. Let’s discuss every single point in detail:
- Permits:
Application of Permit is the very first step towards well site selection and construction. It is a part of supplementary requirements. The points which are involved in Permits, according to the U.S oil and gas laws, are as follows:
- The application date.
- Well designation by using name and number.
- Plan, along with the contingency plan for the proper disposal of organic waste which is resulted as the by-product of any extraction strategy. A proper plan for disposing off the salt water by mentioning the location of a disposal well somewhere nearby. Proper and timely submission of disposal plan counts a lot in issuance of permit in a certain stipulated time. If a plan is submitted and due to any unforeseen circumstances, you have changes the plan of using a site for disposal well by selecting another site, you are liable to submit a notification letter as soon as possible to the chief….
