Introduction
project management (PM), Before indulging in the discussion of project management and its specific steps which lead to a successful project, it is important to define a project in a precise manner. The PM Institute has mentioned two characteristics of a project which include:
A project is temporary in nature. It means that the time span of a project is limited with a specific timeline mentioning its beginning and conclusion. This also means that there are limited resources for a project which are generally predetermined and its scope is also limited.
A project is generally unique. It essentially means a project is not part of a routine tasks/operations. It is usually aimed to fulfill one goal which might be complementing the daily operations or bettering them.
To sum up, a project is a set of unique operations which are aimed to complete one goal within a limited span of time and with a limited amount of resources at the project team’s disposal. This chapter will discuss the characteristics of PM and the steps which are important to be considered for a successful project. That will be followed by a demonstration of the Gantt chart related to the hospital management and its advantages to the efficiency of the system as a whole.
The network diagrams will also be discussed followed by the work breakdown and the suggestions of managing the risk. Finally, Project Management it is essential to make sure that the quality standards expected from the outcome of the project are maintained which will be discussed in separate part in this chapter followed by the ethical issues which are associated with the hospital management system (Project Management Institute).
7.2 Project Management
Project management is the course of action that the project team adopts in order to achieve the goals of the project. The phrase, achieving the goals of the project mean that all the tasks are performed within the planned time using the preplanned limited resources and the desired outcome has reached. The PM is generally classified into four steps but the modern scholars suggest five steps in project management which include project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring/control and closing/concluding the project.
The project management also involves the application of knowledge bank of the organization. The scholars have agreed upon a set of knowledge areas which are involved during the PM and execution. They include the Human Resource Management, PM , scope, time, cost, risk, quality, communication, and procurement and integration management. These areas might be indulged simultaneously….
