Management Dissertation and Research Philosophy
Research philosophy addresses the suppositions to expand a specific topic and a particular area (Saunders et al., 2019). These beliefs help understand the research question, the methods to use and how to understand the results (Crotty 1998). A reasonable assumption will create a philosophy which will include the methodology and data analysis techniques. These factors are essential to run an efficient investigation project.
Throughout the choice of the research strategy, philosophical responsibilities are taken. They are essential as it influences what the thoughts and actions of the researcher (Johnson and Clark, 2006). The selection of the philosophy often depends on the research aim and objectives that have to be accomplished. There are several types but the most popular are positivism, interpretivism and pragmatism. This study is about the housing market during the pandemic, which means this research’s scope is contemporary. The researcher will use recent data to draw a conclusion based on the hypothesis. Hence, the philosophy used is positivism. This philosophy focuses on rigorously scientific empiricist system design to produce pure data and facts unbiased by human understanding. This will also emphasize quantifiable observations that will allow statistical analysis.
However, due to the lack of data available, the researcher will rely on qualitative data as well. It could not be critical realism, interpretivism or pragmatic because they explain challenging situations (Coolen, 2012). This study not also seeks to quantify qualitative data but also seeks to quantify quantitative data.
Research Approach from the positivism philosophy, the next step, according to the onion layers, is to determine the research approach, whether it is deductive or inductive (Saunders et al., 2019). The deductive approach is deducing a hypothesis that must be imperiled to empirical analysis. In other words, the researcher will embrace the theories and convert them into researchable elements. (Bell et al., 2015). In inductive approach, the researcher will start to collect data according to the topic of interest and then develop a theory from the data (Azungah, 2018). In this case, the researcher believes that housing prices rose because of the pandemic (Read, 2020). The deductive approach will allow the researcher to move from the theory to data collection to justify the view.
Research Design and Timeline, this research involves the quantitative method of data such as statistical evaluation of the house prices growth in North West and London and the reaction of the first time buyers…
