Introduction and Problem Statement:

This research proposal seeks to investigate and discuss secularism in several countries in the Middle East. Although most of these countries are based on Islamic law, yet this forms the argument of this proposal because of the way of living, thinking and outlook of people, shows that some states remain secular, regardless of what Government imposes on its citizens. The concept of “secularism” defines that a state does not support religion or irreligion in any way, indicating its impartiality in religious matters officially.

There is no preference for any religious belief, which is also referred to as a “state religion,” which the secular
states officially accept. The absence of an officially recognized state religion,
however, does not imply that it provides the conditions for full secularization.
