Introduction

A major objective is to contribute to the body of knowledge on Survival and Self-expression values, and a brief overview of this theory in the introduction will be provided. Taking inspiration from The World Value Survey, which discovered that people’s perspectives have a significant impact on economic growth, the formation and flourishing of democratic institutions, the advancement of gender equality, and the degree to which civilisations have effective governance, the topic was chosen. The research will also provide actual proof of significant technical advancement, socio-cultural shift, and the survival of varied traditions (religious, collectivism and masculinity). According to the thesis, Survival Values in Greece will clash with Self-Expression Values in the country. Furthermore, researchers Ronald Inglehart and Christian Welzel devised the concept, which asserts that cross-cultural variation has two fundamental features throughout the world. Inglehart and Welzel invented the concept. In this scenario, survival values are at odds with ideals of self-expression. The necessity of economic and physical security is emphasised more than ever when it comes to survival concepts. They are associated with an ethnocentric worldview and a lack of trust and tolerance on the part of the public. Self-expression values prioritise subjective well-being, self-expression, and the overall quality of one’s existence. While self-expression is a collection of values, it is also a set of values that encompasses social tolerance, life fulfilment, public expression, and a desire for independence. Ronald Inglehart, the University of Michigan professor who invented the phrase “post-materialism,” has devoted a significant amount of time contemplating the concept. According to (Dutt et al., 2020), the linkage between survival value and self-expressive value is rather ethnocentric where one focuses on security of life, and the other focuses on quality.

Hypothesis

HI: Greece’s technological development leads to the increase of self-expression values.

H2: Greece is an overwhelmingly Orthodox Christian nation and reduction in the Survival Values because of it.

H3: Male gender dominancy consider it a personal honour to take care of their family.

H4: Collectivism is the norm of the Greece culture to work together for the sake of economic and social life.

Data Set

Data from Waves 7 and 8 of the World Value Survey will be used for this research, and they will be analysed. Following the application of the approach, each country is left with a national sample of its population that is representative of the whole population of the country in question. These people are subsequently subjected to a series of questions that are consistently prepared throughout a certain period. The research is carried out by professional organisations, and it involves face-to-face interviews and phone interactions with participants in different locations. No country is included in a wave unless all of the necessary documentation has been submitted. WVS surveys have also included all residents (not only citizens) between the ages of 18 and 85, according to the organisation. The minimum age limit may be decreased by principal investigators as long as the required sample size for the 18+ population (N=1200) is achieved. WVS requires a thorough discussion of the sample procedures that have been suggested. The example plan must be authorised in writing by the EC before it can be implemented.

As a result of Greece’s rapid technological development, which has resulted in the spread of self-expression values, as well as the country’s predominantly Orthodox Christian population, which has resulted in a reduction in Survival Values, the findings will be tailored to the country’s specific circumstances. To add to that, men have always considered it a personal honour to provide for their families; lastly, collectivism is the cultural norm in Greece, which pushes everyone to work together for the good of the country’s economic and social well-being. This is in accordance with the Inglehart–Welzel theory…..
