Modula Aims

To introduce students to issues that affect personal performance and the complexities and challenges of work through self-reflection and evaluation.

Module Focus

This module has been designed to enable students to develop personal and career management strategies and apply these to develop and review life and career plans in an environment of constantly changing contextual factors to replicate the experience of work placement,.

The summative assessment has two components. The first a written proposal document and the second component will be a presentation.

Learning and Teaching Strategy

The content will be delivered through a variety of mechanisms including lectures and tutorials. Formative assessment will be provided in tutorial and seminar sessions.

The growing influence of IT and various software packages on offer such as Moodle, will further enhance the teaching and learning experience.

The Skype facility will also improve communication between lecturers and students with a view to reinforcing learning and facilitating discussion and debate. Moodle will also be used to assess students’ work and provide feedback fairly swiftly and professionally.

Assessment Description

Tasks

  1. Create a WordPress Site and upload the following tasks. Alongside these uploads you must have a regular blog of life changes and choices of personal and professional situations. Personal motivations and achieving these goals.

 

  • Produce a CV with an associated personal statement listing your experience and skills.

 

  • Describe how you (could) meet targets that are set and what methods are/could be used in monitoring effectiveness, i.e. appraisals, motivation and performance etc.

 

  • Investigate your time management strategies and identify where possible improvements can be made to your personal time management.

 

  • Demonstrate how you can use appropriate communication methods using a variety of styles for specific purposes. Identify the importance of communication skills in an organizational setting.

 

  • Referring either to a case study or real life situation within your job, explain the importance of teamwork and the roles people play within a team.

 

  • In this task you will need to analyse team dynamics and suggest possible alternatives to completing tasks set and achieving team goals.

 

  • Identify a potential work based problem and then develop solutions to resolve this. Evaluate the possible tools and methods for developing solutions to the problem(s) and develop an appropriate strategy for resolving the problem. What will the result be in terms of the organisation – analyse.

 

  1. In group allocations you must create a video that is linked to your personal goals or linked to jobs for those that have part time jobs or have had previous careers Human Resource.
  2. You must use this video in your presentation in which each individual must discuss how the video is linked to them.
  3. Using the reflective models covered in lecturers you must complete five reflections on the following tasks.

 

  • Reflection on the completion of task 1
  • Reflection on the Group Video
  • Reflection on the Group Presentation
  • Final reflection of the impact this module has had on your personal development

Module Assessment Advice/Criteria:  Please read the marking criteria included below.

These generic marking criteria will help you to distinguish between the different levels of performance that are required for the different grades applied to assessments.

You should use them to guide your work when you are not provided with more specific criteria.

In particular, you should notice that the higher grades place more emphasis on skills such as independent reading and the correct use of these sources, critical analysis, concise writing and well-presented arguments.

Human Resource on the other hand, the lower grades are obtained when the work is incoherent and descriptive.
