The reflective essay is based on analysis of the nursing-related situation that I faced recently. The reflective analysis will primarily include an illustration of my communication skills that I displayed during the scenario that has been presented in the essay. The reflective analysis has been undertaken in line with the Gibbs Reflective Analysis Model and the different elements that are part of this model.

Reflective Analysis

According to Bogzaran and Deslauriers (2012) reflective analysis is the process through which an analyst analyzes and examines a particular event and draws valid findings and conclusion out from it. In the view of Nixon (2013) Gibbs reflective analysis is one of the most frequently used tools for the presentation of reflective analysis. The tool is used to effectively evaluate an experience of an individual along with things that can be undertaken in order to improve the quality of overall experience in the future.

Gibbs reflective framework is comprised of different elements such as description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, and conclusion along with action plan. All these elements combined together to provide an overview regarding the experience of a person in a particular situation. The presentation of my communication skills in the given scenario with respect to the use of Gibbs Learning Framework has been provided below

Description

The situation that has been discussed in this scenario is related to lack of communication at a medical and healthcare facility due to which a patient could not receive appropriate treatment. The situation illustrates that the patient was admitted to the ward with a low-level sugar. However, he was not provided proper healthcare treatment primarily due to lack of communication between the staff that was present at the department. Therefore, in order to deal with this situation, I believe that I had to display my communication skills and techniques while communicating with different healthcare professionals that were working with me. Displaying appropriate communication would have created an appropriate level of cooperation and coordination between all the staff members.

Feeling

My feeling was that I had to communicate well with all the relevant individuals in order to overcome this complex situation. In addition to that, I also felt that effective communication should be carried out across different channels and department of the workplace for the purpose of ensuring that better services are provided to the patients. The analysis in this respect can also be supported through the analysis presented by Propp, Apker, Zabava Ford, Wallace, Serbenski, and Hofmeister (2010) which states that development of an appropriate mechanism for communication within a healthcare system paves the way towards maintaining the efficiency of the operations at the workplace.

With respect to my overall performance, I would like to say that I would be required too much better in the future in order to fulfill my responsibilities effectively as a healthcare professional.

Evaluation

My evaluation under this section is related to both good and bad things that I had to face throughout this experience which would also provide a guideline regarding the improvements that I would need to bring within my activities in the future.

The good thing about the experience was I was able to know the strengths and weaknesses of my communication and interpersonal skills.
